Poem: The Distance

The longing, the missing,
It was pure anguish,
That aching separation and waiting,
To just see you again,
To be able to reach out,
And touch the warmth of your face.

That burning yearning,
To be reunited with you again,
Never fades but rises again and again,
Like a hunger waiting to be quenched –
Its appetite insatiable.

Here lies a secret I have learnt –
It is not the distance which torments,
It is my misunderstanding of proximity,
Of your affection and company,
I had allowed myself to be swept under,
And became a slave to my emotions.

For the truth is,
When two hearts unite,
Nothing can untie.

There is no distance, or separation,
There is no crazy stormy current,
But a steady lasting torrent,
That holds a universe of profound love –
The eternal gem of humanity’s creation.

Being Afraid Is Human, But Staying Afraid Is A Choice.
