A Fearless Milestone for Huffington Post UK

Today marks a very personal and fearless milestone for me in terms of my social media work, and my publishing and writing journey. I got published in Huffington Post UK, and has been accepted as one of their team of bloggers. My first post with Huff Post UK is all “tongue in cheek”, of which you (my regular readers) may well be familiar with by now. You can find the post here. When I first started this Art of Fearless Living, I did not imagine coming to where I am now. Of course, I still have a long way to go. This is just another fearless chapter of my fearless living journey. It may not mean much to others, but to me, it is a historical moment of my life. You see, I was never confident about my writing. I still doubt myself to this day. I have always admired those who displayed a clear and vivid “written voice” as I often wondered about my own.

The blog started as a Journal of sorts and it has evolved over time. It all changed when I met Julie Gray. She mentored, coached and believed in me long before I could muster the belief in myself. I will remain forever in her debt. She is more than just a writing coach. Though I still have a long way to go, I am beginning to really enjoy my own writing process. Perhaps at another time, I will share more on that.

So, the Huff Post UK article is entitled, Undateable Me. Here, I list the various reasons why Asian men simply find me undateable.

I would really love to read your comments on this article. Every feedback is valuable to me, as it helps me to improve my written work, and it adds to the discussion of various perspectives.

If you have any other ideas or suggestion, please feel free to share with me. I am always open to trying new things and thinking out of the box 🙂

As always, start your brand of fearless living and love the life you live.

With deepest gratitude,
Shirley

It’s such a shame that your society endorses this behaviour towards women…it diminished what they may have to offer as a person. Unbelievable. Maybe you will return to the US or the UK?

To be fair, Kev, unpleasant or ugly behaviour is prevalent everywhere…even in the US and UK. We just need to go through the newsfeed and we will read about something racist or hateful. It is a reflection of the sad state of our greater whole. Did you read about that Asian lady who got beaten to death outside a club in LA recently? Compared to that, what I go through is relatively mild. On the brighter note, things are slowly changing even in Asia. So, that is a good sign. Not just for me, but for everyone 🙂
Sorry I seem to have rambled on. To answer your question – I do not see myself returning to live in the USA but may be in the UK. No matter what, I am still a Asian girl at heart. As they say, you can take a girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl 🙂

I appreciate your honesty…No I didn’t hear about the lady in LA. I lived in the US for over 19yrs but came back home to UK so I understand the country bit. Take care Shirley. 🙂

Congratulations Shirley. You did write a very informativ article in the newspaper.. I think, that you might need to go to another country to be able to find an equal partner, who will be able to respect you, as you are. I think, that you will need to look after some well educated man, and I don’t mean businessman as you wrote, but one who also are able to respect you, as you are.

Thank you for your very kind comments, Irene. I truly appreciate it. I think it has nothing to do with the country. Since the article came out, many women and men all over the world have written to me expressing their own similar experiences. In any case, I am not desperately seeking, and I know that you are not suggesting that I am 🙂
What will be, will be. I am happy as I am, enjoying my fearless journey 🙂
Wishing you a beautiful day or night, wherever you are, Irene 🙂

Like I said in my other comment, well done! That is really awesome and I hope the opportunity really takes you to another level! -OM

Very kind of you to comment here as well, OM. I know you are super busy and don’t read other blogs ;p I am truly honoured.
My reasons and purpose are mine. They may differ from yours. But I still remain true to myself.
I am not seeking for another level per say. The out-pouring of response from women all over the world who wrote to me after that Huff Post article came out was/is more rewarding to me. I was able to give a voice (in my own snarky style, of course) to their similar plight. And in a strange way, we collectively could heal together. I do look forward to being able to do something greater with that Huff Post platform. Well, in my own small way 🙂
I do not know if you do understand what I mean. But I sincerely hope you do.
And the reason I am explaining myself to you is because I do respect you as an individual and as a talented writer/blogger.
      Thank you again, OM.

I kind of just say I don’t read blogs so no one expects it. Technically I read over 200 posts a day. 😉

Understand 🙂 Then I am even more amazed – you read so much and yet you can still have the time to write so many posts *RESPECT*

That is because I don’t really think about my post content and I rarely edit. I am actually a very poor writer when it comes to work ethic lol… 🙂

I am gobsmacked and so happy for you, Shirley!
I can’t get the Canadian – or American – Huff Post to even RESPOND to my many, many, many pitches.
    I bow to your greatness.

LOL, Hook! I can’t have the great Hook bowing to me. It is not on. I only blog for Huff Post UK. I have no idea how Huff Post USA or Canada works. Clearly, they can’t be doing a good job if they did not respond to you. It’s crazy! your Bellman’s Tales are awesome. They seriously do not know a good thing when it’s presented to them! I just got lucky. That’s all. I have only written 3 articles for Huff Post UK to date. Not been very productive at all.
